News on Teen Cafe and Community Unit at TESCO

In the National Newspapers on 9th June TESCO had an Ad seeking tenders for the
short term leasing (5 to 7 years) of their old store. Their previous plan
was to demolish the old store and build new units, including our Community
Unit.  Cllr. John McGinley immediately contacted Kildare County Council on this serious development. It seems as if TESCO want to test the Market in order to put all
options to their Board.  However it would appear as if the Phase 2
development, which includes the Community Unit, will not proceed in the short
term.  However, TESCO will still honour all commitments entered into with
the Council.
The Lease for the Mill Unit, which will be the temporary location for the Teen Cafe, has still not been agreed with the owner.  The Council’s solicitor is having problems with the owner and his solicitor in completing the lease. They will keep at it. In the meantime Cllr. McGinley has asked the Council to look for alternative premises.  There is another empty one at the Mill, but, it is half the size of the other unit and they are looking for double the price.
