‘I am aware of the importance of companies like Intel for Kildare and surrounding areas. Recently, I organised a conference for Irish and European Technology companies on the issue of how best Europe can use Research and Technology programmes to stimulate job creation. Mr Graig Barrett, the Global Head of Intel was our Guest Speaker at the conference.’ stated MEP Liam Aylward to Fianna Fail Local Election candidates and party members in Kildare.
‘At the conference, Intel launched a new Initiative called ‘Intel Labs Europe’, one of which will be located at the Leixlip Plant. The objective of ‘Intel Labs Europe’ is to ensure that Intel will continue to be a global force in Technology. As a member of the EU parliament, I will continue to highlight initiatives that assist in maintaining and creating jobs in our Technology sector.’
‘I have continued to highlight the importance of Broadband coverage and Energy costs in Ireland at EU level, as these issues were raised with me during my visits to Kildare in recent years. I am delighted that the EU has approved a €40m broadband package for the development of broadband in areas that still do not have adequate coverage. Access to Broadband is a key enabler for businesses to develop new markets and communicate effectively with their customers and suppliers.’
‘Last month, the EU approved, following repeated representations at EU level, funding towards the cost of an Interconnecter between Ireland and the UK This has the potential to reduce our energy costs and also provide an opportunity to export energy in the future. During recent visits to Kildare, I know that many Kildare businesses want us to focus on reducing our energy costs and I will continue my work in this area as well.’
‘I will be in Kildare again for the official canvass on 9th of May, and I look forward to working on behalf of Kildare in the future.’ concluded MEP Liam Aylward.
