McDonald’s outlets to open

Posted on 23. Feb, 2009 by Maynooth Town Portal in News

McDonald’s will open four more Irish outlets this year, creating up to 200 jobs, writes Catherine O’Mahony. The fast food chain will open in Ennis, Co Clare, in April, followed by Maynooth, Co Kildare, in May. Further outlets will open in Portlaoise, Co Laois, and in Wexford in September. T he combined building cost is €5 million. The company expects combined revenues of €8 million from the new stores, each of which will employ between 30 and 50 staff. John Atherton, managing director of McDonald’s in Ireland, said the company would be investing between €10 million and €12 million in new stores and refurbishment this year. The new openings will bring to 79 the number of McDonald’s outlets in Ireland, with 19 being managed directly by the company itself and the rest operated by franchisees. Atherton said that McDonald’s was now spending around €150 million a year on Irish produce, and that Ireland was now its second most important European source of beef, after Germany.
