To finish up the scouting year the Beavers and Cubs spent a fun day out at Rathbeggan lakes, fishing, playing games, having a BBQ. The highlight however was the enormous waterfight at the end where the leaders became the main targets! A great time was…

Having completed the first full day on camp, everyone is in great form! The scouts will be staying one more night with their host families before they leave for Kandersteg international campsite in the morning (see the post below!). There they will be taking part in winter activities. Keep checking this site for more updates. As you can see we called in on the united nations today to make sure they were doing everything right!
(They passed our tests! :)

Cub Scout Camp in Larch Hill

The Cubs had a great overnight stay in Larch Hill the Scout National campsite in the Dublin moutains recently. This was the last overnight in tents before the winter season, and even though it dropped to about 2 degrees Celcius in the middle of the night, the Cubs persevered and had a great time. There was a great buzz in Larch Hill that weekend, with over 600 people camping in the estate, including a huge Dublinia county camp. The cubs put everything they had been taught in the preceeding weeks to good use, transporting gear, putting up their own tents and cooking their own food (including making garlic bread from scratch!). They were very lucky as representatives from Astonomy Ireland were there and had set up their telescopes near to the camp, and after a night hike without torches (!!!!) the cubs got to see Venus and some of its moons through the telescopes.
For such a short camp a huge amount of activities were taken part, including treasure hunts, obstacle courses, campfire songs and of course making smores on the campfire. They went home tired and happy, with loads of memories to keep them going until the next camp in the new year.
See below for some photos of the event.
