The Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills, Mary Coughlan TD, today attended the contract signing for the new 1,000 student Coláiste na hInse, Laytown, Co Meath.
The contractor for the post-primary design and build project, one of 43 projects announced on the 12th of February 2009, will be Elliott Sammon Construction Ltd.

Receiver appointed to Naas hotel

A receiver has been appointed to the company Naas Developments Limited, trading as the Osprey Hotel and Spa.
The core business consists of The Osprey Hotel, Conference Centre, Leisure Centre & Spa as well as the well-known ‘TIME’ nightclub.
The receiver has been put in place by Allied Irish Bank.

Intel’s Q2 revenue beats expectations

Technology giant Intel has reported better than expected revenue for its second quarter.
The world leader in computer chip production raised $10.8 billion in the three months leading up to 26 June.
The firm’s net income was $2.9 billion, which compares favourably with the $389m loss recorded in the same period last year.

A Co Kildare woman has been awarded €42,000 in damages after her wedding reception ended in chaos when a hotel ceiling collapsed.
The High Court was told that Joanne Noone’s wedding day will be forever clouded by the memory of the accident at the Setanta House Hotel at Clane Road, Celbridge, in September 2003.

A building company has alleged most of the concrete basements supplied to it for installation in homes on an estate in Maynooth, Co Kildare, are in fact defective and have let in water, exposing it to loss and claims of up to €6 million.

Galway have had to shelve a planned training camp in Carton House this week because of Saturday night’s Leinster hurling semi-final replay with Offaly.
The squad was due to convene at the Maynooth venue yesterday for four days, but the replay has derailed those plans.

Tegral to shed 41 jobs in Kildare

Staff at Tegral in Athy were called into a meeting there earlier today – and informed of the decision. The closure is being attributed to the downturn in the construction sector. Talks on redundancy packages are now getting underway.
